Arsène Wenger Praises Arsenal’s Transfer Activity as Club Looks to Build on Progress
Arsenal, traditionally cautious in the transfer market, has markedly increased its spending over the past two years. After signing Mesut Özil last summer, the London club has already invested nearly €80 million this summer on new recruits including Alexis Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy, Calum Chambers, and David Ospina. And according to manager Arsène Wenger, the business is far from over.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Wenger expressed satisfaction with Arsenal’s activity and hinted at further moves before the transfer window closes.
“I am very happy with our market and I am in favor of doing even more,” the French coach said. “I think that from August 15 to 30, we will still be busy.”
However, Wenger also issued a note of caution, acknowledging the strengthened squads of Arsenal’s Premier League rivals.
“I think we have more confidence in ourselves, but our competitors have also strengthened their team,” he added.
With an expanded squad and fresh talent arriving at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal appear well-positioned to improve on last season’s campaign.
