Argentina vs Switzerland: Goalless but Tense First Half in World Cup Round of 16

The first half of the World Cup Round of 16 clash between Argentina and Switzerland offered little excitement, as both teams remained evenly matched on the pitch. Despite Argentina dominating possession, it was Switzerland who posed the greater threat in front of goal.

Argentina controlled the ball for the majority of the opening 45 minutes but struggled to convert possession into clear-cut chances. The Argentine attack, led by Lionel Messi, remained largely subdued, with the star forward yet to make a significant impact. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Sergio Romero was forced into two important saves to keep the score level.

Switzerland, by contrast, looked more dangerous on the counterattack and tested Romero’s resolve several times. The Swiss side, buoyed by the performances of Xherdan Shaqiri and others, appeared better organised defensively and sharper in transition.

At halftime, the scoreline stood at 0-0, reflecting a tense but cautious encounter. The game remains finely poised, with the potential for rapid breakthroughs if attacking talents such as Messi, Ángel Di María, and Shaqiri continue to build momentum.

Both teams will look to up the tempo in the second half as they seek to secure a place in the World Cup quarter-finals.
