Adly El-Qei, the head of football at Al Ahly Club, announced the departure of Amir Tawfik from his position as Director of Contracts at the Red Castle, promoting him to become the Chief Executive Officer of the football company.
El-Qei revealed that Marwan El-Naib would be appointed as the Director of Contracts at Al Ahly in the near future, a move that sparked significant debate among Ahly’s fans and came as a surprise to many.
Marwan El-Naib is known to be a close friend of Hossam Ghaly, a member of the Al Ahly board, and Mohamed Fadl, a former Ahly star. The decision raised speculation about Ghaly’s involvement, given his strong friendship with El-Naib.
However, El-Qei clarified that Tawfik’s departure from the position of Director of Contracts and his appointment as the Chief Executive Officer of the football company were decisions made by Tawfik himself.
The move sheds light on several recent developments surrounding Hossam Ghaly, who has been involved in internal disputes and power struggles within Al Ahly, often emerging victorious and consolidating his influence within the club’s administration.
Al Ahly’s decision not to pursue a deal with Ahmed Fotouh, the left-back of Zamalek, led to disagreements between Ghaly and some club officials, notably Khaled Mortagy and Amir Tawfik. Ultimately, Al Ahly withdrew from signing Fotouh.
Similarly, negotiations with Marwan Hamdy collapsed after the player was put up for sale by Al Masry, despite coach Marcelo Gallardo’s approval of the deal.
Ghaly objected to the signing, citing strained relations between Al Ahly and Al Masry as a reason for the club’s withdrawal.
Moreover, Ghaly was the first to propose the removal of Sayed Abdel-Hafiz from his position as Director of Football at Al Ahly, despite Abdel-Hafiz’s continued success with the team and his good relationship with the club’s fans.
With Ghaly’s continued influence at Al Ahly, Marwan El-Naib’s appointment as Director of Contracts signals a further consolidation of power within the club’s administration, as Amir Tawfik takes on the role of Chief Executive Officer of the football company.
