Stephen Appiah, a former Black Stars player, has voiced apprehension over Ghana’s delayed arrangements for a base camp ahead of the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament, urging the Ghanaian Football Association (GFA) to swiftly resolve logistical matters.
With a little over a month remaining until the tournament in Ivory Coast, Appiah has expressed concerns that unresolved venue and camping issues could potentially disrupt the national team’s focus.
Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Evans Bobie Owusu, recently acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the camp venue for the Black Stars. Appiah emphasized that the GFA should ensure a more proactive approach.
“Being uncertain about the camping venue at this stage creates distractions because, ideally, preparations should be completed well in advance,” Appiah conveyed to Joy Sports, as reported by Pulse.com.
“It’s concerning that we still don’t have clarity on the team’s camping location. We hope that whatever challenges exist, the GFA manages them effectively.
Finalizing these arrangements will allow the players to prepare in a conducive environment.”
Appiah stressed the significance of a settled campsite for the team’s preparation, underlining the importance of a seamless lead-up to the tournament in Cote d’Ivoire.
He expressed optimism that a resolved camping issue would enable the players to represent Ghana effectively on the international stage.
The ex-Black Stars international’s remarks spotlight the urgency for the GFA to expedite preparations, ensuring that the team can focus on their performance without the distractions of logistical uncertainties.
