Apollon Limassol eye Joel Asoro as Djurgarden loan nears end

Joel Asoro’s loan spell at Djurgarden is nearing its end, and a new option appears to be opening up for the Swedish forward.

With his return to the Allsvenskan failing to truly take off, reports from Cyprus now claim Apollon Limassol have placed the 27-year-old at the top of their wish list.

Asoro rejoined Djurgarden on loan from French club Metz ahead of the 2026 season, having left the Stockholm side for Ligue 1 in the summer of 2023. This time, however, he has struggled to secure a starting role, often coming off the bench behind in-form striker Kristian Lien in the pecking order.

The situation was highlighted in Monday’s 6-0 win over Vasteras SK, when Asoro stayed on the bench throughout the match. His loan deal runs out on 15 August, leaving his future wide open.

Apollon know the Swedish market well. Djurgarden previously signed Felix Va from the Cypriot side, and Hammarby midfielder Tesfaldet Tekie has also spent time there on loan. Metz, who finished bottom of Ligue 1 last season, still have Asoro under contract until June next year, but Apollon Limassol now look ready to test their resolve with a summer move.
