Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has left the door open regarding Trevoh Chalobah’s future, amid fresh interest from Serie A champions Napoli.
Chalobah, who is of Sierra Leonean descent, continues to be linked with a summer exit from Stamford Bridge despite playing a key role in the club’s return to the UEFA Champions League.
The 24-year-old defender rejoined the first team in January following injury and contributed significantly to Chelsea’s top-four finish.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s Club World Cup round of 16 win over Benfica, Maresca was asked whether Chalobah would remain at the club beyond the current transfer window.
“All the players who are here with us, I would not want to lose them,” the Italian said. “But, as we have said several times, when the market is open, unfortunately anything can happen. You can buy a player or sell him. T
“revoh returned to us in January, if we earned a place in the Champions League among the top four, it is also thanks to him. He helped us a lot.”
Chalobah has attracted interest from a number of clubs across Europe in recent windows, and Napoli have now revived their pursuit as they seek defensive reinforcements for the new season.
Maresca added, “He’s also played a few games here at the moment. He’s with us, we’re happy with him. Then, as I said, unfortunately, when the market is open, anything can happen, but not just for Trevoh but for all 25 players in the squad.”
