Pep Guardiola says the best years of Antoine Semenyo’s career lie ahead at Manchester City, insisting the newly signed winger is entering his prime after completing his move to the Etihad Stadium.
Speaking after the transfer was finalised, the City manager expressed confidence that Semenyo will develop further in a City shirt and make a significant impact in the seasons to come.
The 26-year-old has signed a five-and-a-half-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2031, following his move from Bournemouth.
Semenyo joins City at a time when the squad is being tested by injuries and player absences due to the Africa Cup of Nations, making his arrival particularly timely.
Semenyo is expected to be involved immediately. He has been included in the squad for Saturday’s FA Cup third-round tie against Exeter City, scheduled for a 15:00 kick-off, and is also eligible to feature in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg away at Newcastle.
“Everybody knows the qualities [he has] – he was playing extraordinarily at Bournemouth in the last few years and can play both sides,” Guardiola said.
“He’s the perfect age, the best years are to come… he will make his career and best years here.”
