Antoine Kombouaré Relieved as RC Lens Secures Ligue 1 Status, Eyes Squad Rebuild
Antoine Kombouaré breathed a sigh of relief as RC Lens confirmed their place in Ligue 1 for the 2014/2015 season, following the French Football Federation Executive Committee’s official endorsement. The news has allowed the Burkinabe-born coach to focus fully on rebuilding his squad ahead of the campaign.
Speaking to L’Équipe, Kombouaré described the decision as “very good news” for the club, emphasizing the urgency of preparing a competitive team. With the season’s restart looming, the coach revealed he has been busy in discussions with potential signings.
“Today, I’m thinking about the players I’ve contacted and the team I’m going to put together,” Kombouaré said. “It has to be the best possible for August 9. My goal is Nantes: in twelve days, I have to build a decent team.”
The coach’s immediate challenge will be to assemble a squad capable of meeting the demands of France’s top flight, ensuring RC Lens are not merely participants but competitive contenders.
