Ansu Fati set to join Monaco permanently

Spain international of Guinean descent Ansu Fati is edging closer to a permanent stay at AS Monaco following a successful loan spell, with an agreement on personal terms now reported to be close between the forward and the Principality club.

The 23-year-old, who spent last season on loan from Barcelona, impressed during his time in Ligue 1 and quickly became an important attacking option for Monaco. His performances have convinced the club hierarchy to explore a permanent transfer, with discussions now advancing in a positive direction.

Fati’s loan deal reportedly includes a purchase option valued at around €11 million, a clause Monaco are willing to activate after being satisfied with his contribution on the pitch. However, financial negotiations over salary conditions have been the main obstacle in finalising the deal.

During his loan spell, Monaco and Barcelona shared the player’s wages, with each club covering approximately 50 percent. The arrangement allowed the forward to gain regular playing time while easing the financial burden on both sides.

However, Fati’s salary at Barcelona—reportedly around €500,000 per month—has presented a significant challenge for Monaco, whose wage structure does not allow them to match such figures under normal circumstances.

Despite this, both parties have continued working toward a compromise, with reports from France indicating that an agreement on personal terms is now close. This development represents a major step forward in finalising what could become a permanent transfer to the French club.

The forward’s father, Bori Fati, had already hinted in April that his son’s preference was to remain in Monaco after enjoying a positive and productive spell in the Principality. That sentiment now appears to be aligning with the club’s own intentions.

Monaco’s coaching staff are believed to value Fati’s technical ability, movement in the final third, and versatility across attacking positions. His presence added creativity and depth to the squad, and the club see him as a long-term asset if financial terms can be fully resolved.

For Barcelona, the potential departure would mark another step in the reshaping of their squad, as they continue to evaluate the future of players developed through their academy system.

With negotiations progressing steadily, all signs now point toward Fati continuing his career at AS Monaco on a permanent basis, provided the final details are agreed in the coming weeks.
