Pedro Gonçalves, captain of Angola’s national football team, urges the Angolan people to unite in massive support for the Palancas Negras. With just under a week until the official commencement of the continental football extravaganza in Ivory Coast, Angola is gearing up for their ninth participation, with the opening match against Algeria scheduled for January 15, 2024.
Ahead of their departure to Ivory Coast on January 11, 2023, the Angola national team has been intensively preparing in Dubai for the past week.
During this crucial phase, the Palancas Negras engaged in a friendly match against DR Congo last weekend, showcasing commendable performances despite the match ending in a draw.
Another friendly match is scheduled for January 10, this time against Bahrain, as part of their comprehensive preparation strategy.
In a heartfelt interview from their base in Dubai, Pedro Gonçalves emphasized the importance of national unity and support for the Palancas Negras during AFCON 2023.
He stated, “Our main goal is to be truly ready for the challenge that awaits us on January 15.
Be with us, support us, may we feel the energy of those who have always been by our side.
We want to be worthy representatives of Angola and give the maximum for our country.”
Angola finds itself in Group D alongside formidable opponents Algeria, Burkina Faso, and Madagascar.
The Palancas Negras are set to kick off their AFCON 2023 campaign against the Fennecs at the Stade de la Paix in Bouaké, and Pedro Gonçalves’ call for unity echoes the collective spirit as Angola aims for a successful and memorable tournament.
