Angola gears up for Egypt showdown in U-17 World Cup play-off
Angola clinched a thrilling chance to fight for a FIFA U-17 World Cup spot after finishing third in Group D at the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The Angolan squad delivered a commanding 6-1 victory over the Central African Republic on Monday night, wrapping up their group stage campaign with flair. That result, paired with Côte d’Ivoire’s 4-2 win over Mali, nudged Angola into fourth place with four points.
Côte d’Ivoire led the group with seven points, followed closely by Mali with six, both already securing their World Cup berths for the tournament in Qatar from November 3 to 27.
Now, Angola faces a do-or-die play-off against Egypt, Group B’s third-place finishers, to snag the last ticket. Egypt earned their spot with a gritty 2-1 win over Cameroon, despite stumbling against South Africa and Burkina Faso earlier.
The stakes couldn’t be higher as these young talents battle for a shot at global glory.
