Angola international M’Bala Nzola has been demoted to the reserve team of RC Lens over disciplinary concerns.
The on-loan Fiorentina attacker, who arrived at Lens with high hopes last summer is currently struggling.
Nzola was sent off against FC Nantes following an indiscipline act in the match. The forward threw the ball at the referee, leading to his sending off.
He was handed two-match ban together with further sanctions, further weakening an already shaky Lens frontline.
At the weekend, Nzola showed up late to training, prompting coach Will Still to drop him to the reserves for the National 3 game against Pays de Cassel.
As a result, he was completely left out of the squad for the 1-0 win over AS Saint-Étienne on April 6.
“There is a framework to respect. A line has been crossed. This has happened before, but you may not have noticed. If we don’t respect the rules, we won’t be part of the group.” Said the coach.
With repeated disciplinary breaches and underwhelming performances, Nzola’s future at RC Lens looks all but over.
He is expected to return to parent club Fiorentina at the end of the current campaign. His contract with the Italian club expires in the summer of 2027.
