Ange Postecoglou believes Al-Nassr’s failure to convert several opportunities in their 1-0 victory over Neom is evidence of their ability to threaten opponents, rather than a concern.
Joao Felix scored the decisive goal in the second half to secure three points for Al-Nassr in the 10th round of the Saudi Pro League.
Speaking in comments published by Saudi newspaper Al Riyadiah, Postecoglou said: “We knew the match would be difficult, and I am pleased to come away with three points. I thank the players for their tactical discipline throughout the game.”
Al-Nassr created a number of chances but were unable to add to Felix’s goal. Postecoglou said that was a positive indication of their attacking strength.
“We created many opportunities, and it is difficult to score all of them, but this is a good sign of our ability to reach the goal,” he added.
The match also saw the manager alter the positions of several players, with Brazilian winger Angelo Gabriel operating on the right rather than in midfield.
Postecoglou praised Angelo’s performance and highlighted the Brazilian’s contribution to the only goal of the game, which he created for his Portugal team-mate Joao Felix.
The Australian said: “The most important thing for us is to win matches like these and continue our run of victories.”
Al-Nassr were without French players Mohamed Simakan and Kingsley Coman, whom Postecoglou described as important figures in any team.
“Despite the circumstances, we managed to rotate some players and secure the victory,” he said. “I have previously stressed the importance of winning difficult matches such as this one, particularly with the pressure of the schedule.”
Al-Nassr’s success was ultimately decided by Felix’s second-half strike after a first period in which Cristiano Ronaldo missed a penalty.
The result moved Al-Nassr on to 22 points and lifted them to third place in the table. Neom remain on 16 points in sixth.
