Andrew Omobamidele joins Anderlecht from Strasbourg on season-long loan

Irish-Nigerian defender Andrew Omobamidele has joined Belgian club RSC Anderlecht from French side Strasbourg on a season-long loan, with the move running until 30 June 2027.

The 24-year-old centre-back switches clubs after beginning the 2026-27 campaign in Ligue 1, where he made two appearances and played every available minute for Strasbourg. He now moves to the Jupiler Pro League, with Anderlecht becoming the latest club in a career that has included spells in England and France.

Omobamidele joined Strasbourg permanently from Nottingham Forest in July 2025 after previously spending part of the 2024-25 season on loan at the French club. He made the move to Forest from Norwich in September 2023 in a transfer valued at €12.85m.

His time at Strasbourg began with a loan move in January 2025 before becoming permanent in the following summer. Across the early part of the current season, he started both of the club’s Ligue 1 matches and completed 180 minutes of league football.

The defender came through Norwich’s academy after moving from Leixlip United in Ireland to Norwich’s under-18 side in 2018. He progressed to Norwich City’s development team before joining the first-team squad in January 2021.

Omobamidele was part of the Norwich side that won the English second tier in the 2020-21 season. The Leixlip-born player stands 1.88m tall and is predominantly right-footed.

His arrival gives Anderlecht a defender with recent experience of top-flight football in France and a playing history that includes senior spells with Norwich, Nottingham Forest and Strasbourg. The Belgian club will retain him through the end of the 2026-27 season, when the loan is scheduled to conclude and he is due to return to Strasbourg.
