Andreas Pereira hails Alex Iwobi as ‘Nigeria’s Ronaldinho’ after Fulham’s win over Liverpool

Alex Iwobi earned high praise from teammate Andreas Pereira, who likened the Nigerian international to Brazilian legend Ronaldinho following Fulham’s stunning 3-2 triumph over Liverpool in the Premier League.

Iwobi played a pivotal role in Fulham’s comeback victory at Craven Cottage, scoring one of the three goals that helped the Cottagers overturn an early deficit.

Liverpool had taken the lead through Alexis Mac Allister, but Fulham responded emphatically with goals from Ryan Sessegnon, Iwobi, and Rodrigo Muniz to secure all three points.

The win not only boosted Fulham’s aspirations of a potential Champions League place but also brought an end to Arne Slot’s remarkable 26-match unbeaten run in the Premier League since taking charge of the Reds.

Despite a late strike from Luis Diaz that reduced the margin, Liverpool were unable to salvage the result.

Iwobi’s performance drew widespread acclaim, but it was Pereira’s post-match comment that sparked the most attention.

Sharing celebratory photos on Instagram, Iwobi was seen posing with fellow teammates Calvin Bassey and Andreas Pereira after the final whistle.

Bassey referenced their joint celebration in the caption, while Pereira offered a particularly flattering tribute, writing: “Ronaldinho from Nigeria.”

The comparison, though playful, reflects the growing admiration Iwobi is receiving for his flair, creativity, and consistency this season.

The 27-year-old’s ability to control the tempo in midfield, make decisive runs, and produce moments of brilliance has made him a standout figure in Fulham’s campaign.

His goal against Liverpool marked another personal milestone. Iwobi became the first Nigerian player in Premier League history to reach at least 30 goals and 30 assists, a testament to his sustained impact since his debut with Arsenal.

The landmark further solidifies his legacy among Nigeria’s most successful footballers in the English top flight.

Fulham’s resurgence in recent weeks has been led by a cohesive unit, but Iwobi’s individual contributions have added an extra layer of creativity and composure.

Manager Marco Silva has consistently praised the midfielder’s work ethic and intelligence, and his ability to rise in high-stakes fixtures has proved crucial in Fulham’s climb up the table.

As the season enters its final stretch, Fulham now find themselves within touching distance of the Champions League qualification spots—an achievement that seemed unlikely at the start of the campaign.

With Iwobi in inspired form and teammates like Pereira and Bassey rallying around him, the London club appears well poised to mount a serious challenge for European football.

The admiration for Iwobi’s latest performance, punctuated by Pereira’s light-hearted comparison to one of football’s all-time greats, reflects not only a moment of celebration but a deeper recognition of his evolution into a top-tier Premier League talent.
