Andre Onana’s struggles continued to plague Manchester United, as the goalkeeper’s costly mistakes led to a frustrating 2-2 draw against Lyon in the Europa League quarter-final first leg.
Since the 2023/24 season, no Premier League shot-stopper has made more errors directly resulting in goals than Onana, with nine to his name.
This season alone, he’s played 42 matches but managed only 10 clean sheets. In the 25th minute, Lyon’s Thiago Almada whipped in a free kick, and Onana misjudged it, letting the ball slip into the net.
The Cameroonian was at fault again for Lyon’s second, spilling a shot straight to Rayan Cherki, who pounced to score. Pundits after the game have slammed Onana for costing his team.
Leny Yoro pulled one back for United, becoming the youngest defender to score for the club in Europe at 19 years, 4 months, and 28 days. Substitute Joshua Zirkzee leveled the score, but Onana’s errors left United with work to do in the return leg.
