Andre Onana backed to fight for Manchester United no 1 spot
Andre Onana has been urged to return to Manchester United and battle for the No 1 shirt, with close friend and former Chelsea defender Geremi insisting the goalkeeper just needs a fair platform to show his true level.
Onana is currently on loan at Trabzonspor but is expected back at Old Trafford in the summer.
“Listen, I know Andre very well and during his time at United there were a lot of things that were not right,” Geremi told Telecom Asia.
“It wasn’t just him. And believe me, with the arrival of Michael Carrick, things are looking good for everyone, including him. He is clearly talented and his gifts are rare. The next thing is for him to go back there and fight for his spot. Andre has always excelled when faced with a challenge. He thrives when he’s given a fair chance to prove himself.”
However, recent reports suggest United may not share that optimism, with Senne Lammens now viewed as a calmer, more reliable presence in goal and the club not currently planning to reinstall Onana as first choice.
