Andre Ayew, the captain of the Ghanaian national football team, affirmed the readiness of the Black Stars’ players for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, commencing this evening in Ivory Coast.
Ghana faces Cape Verde tomorrow in the opening match of the tournament within the framework of Group Two, which also includes Egypt and Mozambique.
Speaking at the press conference, Andre Ayew stated, “As the leader of this group of players, there are some records that need to be broken, but I focus on contributing to the players and my national team first and foremost.”
He added, “It’s about the team, and we are here to win matches and go as far as possible in this competition, especially after the disastrous previous tournament for us.”
In the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, the Ghanaian national team exited the group stage, leaving the qualification tickets to Morocco and Comoros after losing to both teams and drawing against Gabon.
Andre Ayew, the captain of the Ghanaian national team, continued, “Let’s focus on the Cape Verde match first, and then we can talk about breaking records.
Our ambition is to win the championship and lift the cup in my eighth participation.”
He pointed out, “Nothing can be predicted, but we have a fantastic group of players and a very good coach.
We want to capitalize on that and win the title in Ivory Coast.”
In conclusion, Ayew said, “Ivory Coast is my second home; my wife is Ivorian, and my children also know this country.
I thank the Ivorians for their warm welcome, and I hope for the success of this edition.”
