Anderlecht: Ostend Refuses to Release Ibrahima Conté

Belgium – K.V. Ostend is reportedly close to securing the services of Guinean international Ibrahima Conte as they look to bolster their squad for the second half of the season. According to reports, the midfielder has already reached a personal agreement with the coastal club, with Ostend viewing him as a potential key playmaker, or “number ten,” for the team.

The move, however, faces obstacles, as Anderlecht, Conte’s current club, is reluctant to release the player mid-season. RSCA manager Herman Van Holsbeeck made his stance clear, emphasizing the importance of competition within the squad. “Conte will stay with us. He has a contract and must learn to live with the competition. Moreover, we are not going to strengthen a direct competitor this season,” Van Holsbeeck told local media.

Despite Ostend’s strong attacking lineup, featuring Musona, Berrier, and Canesin, the club is keen to add depth and quality to its squad, particularly through players who can make an immediate impact. Conte’s versatility and technical ability make him an attractive target, with the Guinean midfielder capable of influencing play in both offensive and transitional phases.

The negotiations highlight a growing tension in the Belgian Pro League, where clubs must balance the desire to strengthen their squads with contractual obligations and competitive fairness. Ostend’s proactive approach underscores their ambition to challenge in the top half of the table and push for a strong finish this season.

Conte’s potential arrival would represent a significant reinforcement for Ostend, who are eager to integrate a player of his experience and skill into their tactical setup. The midfielder’s ability to dictate play, create opportunities, and contribute to both goals and assists would provide the Coasters with a creative focal point.

While Ostend moves quickly on the Conte file, Anderlecht’s stance serves as a reminder of the complexities involved in mid-season transfers. Clubs must weigh the benefits of selling a player against the potential risk of strengthening a competitor. In this case, RSCA appears determined to retain its talent while Ostend continues to explore all avenues to secure the midfielder.

As the transfer window progresses, attention will focus on whether an agreement can be reached, either through a loan deal or a permanent transfer in the summer. Fans of both clubs are watching closely, anticipating how the situation will unfold and what impact Conte could have on Ostend’s ambitions.

For Ostend, acquiring Conte would not only enhance the squad’s technical and creative capacity but also signal the club’s intent to compete more aggressively in the Belgian Pro League. The coming weeks will likely be decisive in determining whether the Guinean international can make the move and become a central figure in Ostend’s push for success.
