Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has expressed his admiration for Patrick Dorgu following the young defender’s standout performance and goal in their 4-1 preseason victory over Bournemouth in Chicago on Wednesday.
Dorgu, who has Nigerian heritage but represents Denmark at youth level, scored United’s second goal in a dominant first-half showing that also saw Rasmus Hojlund find the net.
Amad Diallo and Ethan Williams added to the tally in the second half, before a Matthijs de Ligt own goal gave Bournemouth a late consolation.
Amorim reserved special praise for the 20-year-old left-back, highlighting his rapid adaptation to the demands at Manchester United.
“It’s impressive. He’s 20 years old. He looks more and more like he belongs in Manchester United, and that is hard to do at 20 years old,” Amorim said. “But he’s so powerful, he’s getting his technique in his game, he’s defending so well, he’s pressing so well. So I’m really impressed with Patrick.”
The Nigerian-Danish talent has been one of the standout performers in United’s preseason campaign, showcasing both physical strength and technical growth under Amorim’s guidance.
His contribution against Bournemouth further underlines his growing importance in the team’s defensive setup as the new season approaches.
The manager also spoke broadly about the team’s improved intensity and cohesion, emphasising the progress in areas such as pressing, ball possession, and set-piece organisation. “We controlled really well Evanilson and Semenyo… we are more competitive,” he noted.
