Amorim admits long-term concern after French-Ivorian Leny Yoro limps off against West Ham

Manchester United defender Leny Yoro’s early exit from their match against West Ham has left manager Ruben Amorim concerned about the youngster’s long-term fitness.

Yoro, who has Ivorian roots, limped off during the game, sparking fears that the injury could impact his availability for the next season.

Amorim, speaking after the match, admitted that his mind immediately went to the broader implications of Yoro’s fitness.

“Leny was the same as Matta [Matthijs de Ligt], [when he got injured at Brentford], I was thinking about the next year, the squad, if we need another guy,” he said.

“If he’s a long injury. That is my concern. It’s not about just the final, of course, I want every player fit.”

He added that Yoro’s issue is related to a previous foot problem he dealt with during pre-season, making the situation even more worrying.

“Leny Yoro was in his foot, he had that problem [in pre-season], so I was so concerned about the next season, the next squad, the way we build up the squad,” Amorim explained.

However, the Portuguese manager remains optimistic about United’s readiness for the upcoming final, despite the potential absence of one of their promising young defenders.

“That was my biggest concern,” he said. “The rest? We’ll be ready for the final, no matter what.”
