Amir Abdou arrives in Ouagadougou to take charge of Burkina Faso
Amir Abdou has arrived in Ouagadougou to begin his tenure as head coach of the Burkina Faso national team, days after being appointed to the role.
The Franco-Comorian coach touched down in the Burkinabe capital late on Monday, 2 March, marking the first step in his new assignment with the Stallions. His appointment was confirmed on 28 February 2026.
Abdou was welcomed at the airport by representatives of the Burkina Faso Football Federation (FBF), signalling the federation’s readiness to usher in a new chapter for the national side.
According to the federation, the 52-year-old is scheduled to meet FBF president on 3 March to complete the formalities surrounding the signing of his contract.
The meeting is expected to finalise the terms of his engagement and officially confirm the start of his mandate.
Abdou emerged as the federation’s preferred choice after an extensive selection process that drew 82 applicants.
The recruitment exercise lasted nearly a month, with the FBF assessing candidates before settling on the former Comoros coach.
He takes over from Brama Traoré, whose tenure ended following Burkina Faso’s elimination at the round of 16 stage of the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The federation’s decision to make a change came after the team’s exit from the continental tournament, prompting a search for a new direction ahead of upcoming competitions.
Abdou’s arrival in Ouagadougou now sets the stage for his first official engagements with federation officials, as Burkina Faso look to rebuild and strengthen their national team under new leadership.
