Following Bayer Leverkusen’s triumphant 3-0 victory over Bayern Munich this Saturday, winger Amine Adli seized the opportunity to address the recent upheaval surrounding the underwhelming performance of the Morocco national team at AFCON2023.
Amine Adli expressed his contentment with the retention of the Atlas Lions’ coach, Walid Regragui, despite the team’s premature exit from the competition.
In a statement to Hespress, Adli emphasized the unity within the squad in supporting Regragui, referring to him as a “big brother” and an esteemed coach.
Adli stated, “I am very happy. The entire squad is behind the coach. I don’t think there was any question to ask.
He’s like a big brother, someone very important to us, a great coach. We are all with him, we appreciate him enormously. Failures in football happen.”
While mourning the recent loss of his mother just before the tournament, the Toulouse-trained winger candidly expressed his disappointment with the unfolding events in Ivory Coast, extending his apologies to the passionate supporters.
Adli conveyed his remorse, saying, “I’m sorry! There are no words, I think we could see how disappointed I was (he was in tears after the elimination, editor’s note).
All the Moroccan people were disappointed. I was keen to have a great AFCON, to win a title with my country. Inshallah, we will have other chances.”
Acknowledging the overwhelming support from Moroccans in the aftermath of the defeat, Adli expressed gratitude, saying, “I hope that the Moroccans will continue to support us as they did after the defeat. I thank them. They have been incredibly supportive.”
