The African football extravaganza is on the verge of kicking off, with only one week remaining. Algeria, a prominent participant in the tournament, is set to feature in Group D in Bouaké, competing alongside Angola, Burkina Faso, and Mauritania.
While the focus naturally falls on the players, the Algerian contingent extends beyond the pitch, with four referees selected for officiating duties, showcasing the nation’s contribution to the tournament’s organizational aspects.
Mustapha Ghorbal and Youcef Gamouh will assume roles as game directors, with Lahlou Benbraham serving as an assistant referee and Abbès Akram Zerhouni operating as the VAR (Video Assistant Referee).
However, the Algerian representation isn’t confined to officiating roles on the field. Ameur Chafik, the former national technical director and current head of training at the DTN, received a call from CAF for a distinctive role.
Chafik, recognized as the only Algerian instructor in the lineup, holds the position of CAF Regional Elite instructor.
In a select group of 19 technicians (TSG), which includes individuals like Frenchman Nkongolo Hérita Llunga and American Abdul Faisal Alhassan-Chibah, Chafik will play a crucial role.
His responsibilities involve closely observing all matches throughout AFCON, conducting meticulous analyses, and contributing to the preparation of the final technical report for CAF.
In the midst of these notable appointments, Toufik Korichi appears to have faded from the radar, marking the singular presence of Ameur Chafik as the lone Algerian instructor poised to contribute significantly to the technical aspects and assessment of the upcoming tournament.
