AmaZulu sign Ivory Coast defender Ahoutou Landry Angenor Zouzou

AmaZulu have strengthened their defensive options ahead of the 2026/27 season by signing Ivory Coast centre-back Ahoutou Landry Angenor Zouzou from Tanzanian club AZAM.

The 25-year-old, who is left-footed, has agreed a three-year contract with the Betway Premiership side after spending the previous campaign in Tanzania. He had been training with AmaZulu for the past week, according to iDiski Times, before completing his move to the club.

Zouzou arrives as part of AmaZulu’s preparations for the new season, with head coach Arthur Zwane set to have another option in central defence. The Durban-based club are looking to improve on their fourth-place finish in the league last season and have continued to reshape their squad during the off-season.

The defender began his development in the senior set-up at Ivorian club ASEC Mimosas, where he emerged as one of the country’s promising young players. He later spent time with AFAD Plateau before moving abroad to continue his career in Tanzania with AZAM.

At international level, Zouzou was involved in the Ivory Coast Under-20 and Under-23 set-ups. His appearances within those age-group squads helped establish him among the more highly regarded defensive prospects in the West African country before he began his Tanzanian adventure.

AmaZulu have now brought him to South Africa in a move designed to add depth and balance to their defensive department. His left-footed profile gives Zwane an additional option as the club prepares for the demands of the 2026/27 campaign.

The arrival is one of a number of changes made by AmaZulu since last season’s league campaign. The club have acquired ten new players, with Zouzou joining Khomotjo Lekoloane, Neo Mokoena, Keanan Phillips, Siphesihle Maduna, Gape Moralo, Omega Mdaka, Moses Shumah and Wilfried Kouassi among the new additions named.

Zouzou’s signing also follows AmaZulu’s continued focus on strengthening the squad under Zwane. The club will hope the new arrivals can help them move beyond fourth place and compete more strongly in the Betway Premiership next season.

The defender’s previous experience in Ivory Coast and Tanzania, combined with his involvement in the national youth structure, will form part of the background to his move. For AmaZulu, the immediate priority is to integrate him into their squad and make use of the added defensive choice his arrival provides.
