US Gorée head coach Aly Male has expressed confidence in the quality of Senegalese football coaches, highlighting their growing presence on the international stage.
The former ASC HLM manager, who guided his side to promotion in the 2023/24 season before returning to Gorée, also shared his thoughts on Pape Thiaw’s appointment as head coach of the Senegalese national team.
Speaking to Wiwsport, Male emphasized that the rising influence of Senegalese technicians abroad is a testament to their strong training and expertise.
“Yes, we have good training, good trainers, and very good coaches, and this is not new. Technicians like Youssou Touré, Lamine Dieng, and many others have been able to export their expertise abroad,” he said.
According to Male, an increasing number of Senegalese coaches are making an impact in foreign leagues.
“We can mention Lamine Ndiaye, Youssou Dabo, and, recently, Aliou Cissé (Libya coach), among others. They are doing excellent work abroad. It’s the fruit of our expertise, and we can only be proud of it. Their success is also ours, because they fly the flag for Senegal.”
Backing for Pape Thiaw
With Pape Thiaw now at the helm of the national team, Male expressed his support for the new coach and his selections for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
“He’s a Senegalese like all of us, and we wish him good luck. He has all the qualities to manage the national team, even if some doubt it. He has already proven himself with the local team and has the means to succeed,” he stated.
While refraining from critiquing Thiaw’s squad selection, Male acknowledged that every coach has their own vision.
“His list is his choice as a coach, and he has his reasons.
He has retained the best players possible in his eyes. We wish him good luck and much success.
Thiaw, who previously managed Senegal’s local national team, faces a challenging task as he prepares the Lions for the World Cup qualifiers.
With growing recognition of Senegalese coaching talent both domestically and internationally, expectations remain high for his tenure at the helm.
