Alverca bring in Girona forward Dawda Camara as Liga Portugal challenge begins

Mauritanian-Spanish striker Dawda Camara has joined Portuguese club Alverca from Girona for €150,000, completing a move to Liga Portugal at the age of 23.

The centre-forward arrives after spending the opening weeks of the 2026-27 campaign with Girona, who compete in Spain’s LaLiga2. Camara made two appearances for the Catalan side, playing 113 minutes, before switching to Alverca on 1 September.

Camara’s move to Portugal follows a season in which he also spent time on loan at Cadiz. He joined the LaLiga2 club from Girona in September 2025 and returned to his parent side at the end of the loan spell on 30 June 2026.

The forward came through Girona’s system, progressing from the club’s youth ranks to Girona FC B before moving into the senior squad. His route to Alverca therefore marks his first move outside Spain, with the Portuguese club becoming the latest stage of his development as a professional striker.

Camara was born in Banyoles and holds Mauritanian and Spanish nationality. Standing at 1.88m, he is a right-footed forward whose primary position is through the centre of the attack.

At Girona, he was involved in two league matches during the early part of the new season, starting one of them. He did not score or provide an assist in those appearances, and received one yellow card.

Alverca’s move adds a forward with recent experience of Spanish second-tier football to their squad. The club’s arrival in Camara’s career also represents a change of league and country after he spent his senior career to date with Girona, including a temporary spell at Cadiz.

The transfer was completed on 1 September, with Camara’s market value listed at €1m at the time of the move. The striker has signed a contract with Alverca running until 30 June 2028.
