Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies has expressed his devastation after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.
The Canada captain with roots in Liberia is set for an extended period of time on the sidelines after sustaining the injury in his right knee while on international duty with Canada.
He suffered the setback during his country’s victory over the United States in California.
According to his agent Nedal Huoseh, the highly-rated full-back is not happy with the situation.
“I spoke with him, and of course, he’s anything but happy with the situation. He wanted to be available for FC Bayern in the coming important weeks,” Nedal Huoseh told tz in an interview.
Alphonso Davies, 24, is set to spend around seven months on the sidelines and will not resume training until October.
Meanwhile, the Canada national team has expressed their full support to the injured player, wishing him the best in his recovery.
“We want to express our full support for our Men’s National Team captain, Alphonso Davies, as he recovers from this unfortunate injury. Phonzie’s strength and resilience match his world-class talent, and we all look forward to fully supporting him during his recovery. Canada Soccer’s coaches and experienced medical staff are true professionals and have always prioritized player safety and well-being. Anything suggesting otherwise is untrue,” a statement said.
