Aliou Dieng is expected to return to Al Ahly soon, with his loan spell at Saudi side Al Kholood nearing its end and the FIFA Club World Cup just weeks away.
While Al Ahly has named the Malian midfielder in their preliminary squad for the tournament in the United States, confusion remains over the club’s formal request for his early release. Mohammed Khalifa, chairman of Al Kholood, said Dieng will land in Cairo on Wednesday after being granted an extended stay.
“Al Ahly has not yet requested Dieng’s participation in the Club World Cup and no official from Al Ahly has contacted us, so Dieng will remain with the team until the end of his contract next June,” Khalifa stated in a TV interview.
Despite this, Dieng is scheduled to secure his U.S. visa in line with Al Ahly’s original timeline, suggesting preparations are already in motion.
The Club World Cup kicks off on June 14, giving the Reds just enough time to finalize their squad before the July 13 finale.
