Aliou Cissé takes charge of Libya with eyes on 2027 AFCON qualification

Aliou Cissé, the former head coach of Senegal, is set to embark on a new chapter in his managerial career as he prepares to lead the Libyan national team.

The 47-year-old will sign a two-year contract, with the option to extend for an additional two years if Libya secures qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Cissé, who guided Senegal to their maiden AFCON triumph in 2021, will be tasked with revitalizing Libyan football and steering the national team towards qualification for major tournaments.

His appointment signals a significant step in Libya’s ambition to strengthen its presence on the continental stage.

Accompanying Cissé will be a trusted technical staff comprising an assistant coach, a physical trainer, and a goalkeeping coach.

The team’s collective expertise will play a pivotal role in implementing Cissé’s strategic vision and enhancing the squad’s performance.

In addition to his duties with the senior national team, Cissé will also assume a supervisory role over Libya’s U23 and U20 teams.

He is expected to establish a comprehensive development program aimed at nurturing young talent and fostering long-term growth within Libyan football.

Cissé’s experience and leadership will be crucial as Libya looks to rebuild its footballing infrastructure and compete at the highest level.

His tenure is set to commence with the objective of securing qualification for the 2027 AFCON, a challenge that could pave the way for a brighter future for Libyan football.
