Al Ahly officials have dismissed reports of any disciplinary action against Tunisian left-back Ali Maaloul, following his reaction after the team’s dramatic 2-1 win over National Bank SC in the Egyptian Premier League’s championship round.
Maaloul drew attention when he left the pitch without celebrating the victory with teammates and quietly headed to the dressing room.
His absence during the post-match festivities sparked speculation that he may have been sanctioned for his conduct. However, a club source has clarified that no such decision has been taken.
“There has been no punishment issued against Ali Maaloul. He did not commit any misconduct nor utter anything inappropriate,” the Al Ahly insider told Kooora. “He simply walked off the field in silence and made his way home after the match.”
According to the same source, the experienced defender is frustrated by his limited involvement in recent matches — a sentiment the club views as understandable.
“He is naturally disappointed about not playing regularly, but he has not overstepped any bounds,” the official noted.
Maaloul, who has built a distinguished career at Al Ahly over the years, remains a respected figure within the squad. The club recognises his professionalism and past contributions.
“Ali Maaloul is a big name and has earned a lot of credit at this club. He hasn’t spoken out publicly, and he’s remained respectful,” the source added.
It is believed that Maaloul’s subdued reaction is partly due to concerns that reduced playing time could affect his selection for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.
The club understands his disappointment and views it as a reflection of his ambition and commitment to the team.
