Algeria’s U17 women’s team has advanced to the final round of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers after a commanding 4-0 victory over Botswana in Blida.
The result overturned a 2-1 defeat from the first leg, securing their place in the next stage of the competition.
Playing at the Mustapha Tchaker Stadium, coach Abdennour Mira’s side delivered a dominant performance, ensuring their progression with a 5-2 aggregate win.
The scoring was opened by Rebbahi in the 22nd minute, before Hanene Sehoul doubled Algeria’s lead just before halftime in the 41st minute.
Iskounene extended the advantage in the 74th minute, and Sehoul sealed the triumph with her second goal of the night in the 86th minute.
Sehoul’s brace was particularly significant, as she had also found the net in the first leg in Botswana, highlighting her importance to the team’s attacking strength.
With this victory, Algeria now faces a daunting challenge in the final qualification round, where they will take on Nigeria, Africa’s most dominant team in this category.
The Super Falcons’ youth side has historically been a powerhouse, making the upcoming encounter a formidable test for the Algerians.
Despite the tough road ahead, Algeria’s progress under coach Mira is evident. Just a year ago, they suffered a heavy defeat at this stage against Morocco, but this time, they have shown resilience and improvement.
Their journey now continues as they prepare for the ultimate hurdle in their bid to reach the U17 Women’s World Cup.
