Algeria’s Ramy Bensebaïni withdraws from national team due to injury

Algeria's Ramy Bensebaïni withdraws from national team due to injury

Algeria’s national football team, the Fennecs, has been hit by yet another setback as defender Ramy Bensebaïni joins the list of absentees for their upcoming match against South Africa. Following in the footsteps of Ismaël Bennacer, Hicham Boudaoui, and Amine Gouiri, Bensebaïni has been forced to withdraw from the squad due to injury.

The 28-year-old left-back sustained a knee injury during Algeria’s previous match against Bolivia, which ended in a 3-2 victory.

Despite initially attempting to play through the discomfort, Bensebaïni’s condition has worsened, prompting the team’s medical staff to authorize his departure from the squad to undergo further treatment.

In an official press release, the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) confirmed Bensebaïni’s absence and provided insight into his injury status.

“The defender of the national team, Ramy Bensebaïni, who injured his knee during the last match against Bolivia, has been released from training,” stated the FAF.

The decision to release Bensebaïni from the national team comes after medical examinations revealed the extent of his injury, ruling him out of contention for the upcoming fixture against South Africa.

With Bensebaïni sidelined, Algeria’s head coach, Vladimir Petkovic, faces yet another challenge in assembling his lineup for the FIFA Serie – Algeria 2024 tournament.

Bensebaïni’s absence adds to the growing list of setbacks for the Fennecs, who now find themselves grappling with key player withdrawals ahead of crucial fixtures.

As they prepare to face South Africa at the Nelson Mandela Stadium, Algeria will be hoping to overcome these challenges and deliver a strong performance in their pursuit of success on the international stage.
