Waheibat Rahal, the coach of the Algerian national women’s under-17 team, praised the heroic performance of the “Green Girls” in yesterday’s match against Benin in the second leg of the World Cup qualifiers.
“The match was extremely tough, especially after our 2-0 loss in the first leg, combined with the girls’ lack of experience as it was their first international experience,” said Waheibat Rahal.
Speaking to the Algerian News Agency, Rahal added, “The first leg against Benin was their first encounter.
In preparation for the return leg, we made the necessary corrections and worked extensively on the mental aspect, which instilled belief in the players’ ability to qualify for the next round.”
“Thanks to their determination to overcome challenges, the girls delivered a heroic performance at the historic July 5 Stadium, where they played for the first time,” she emphasized.
Regarding the upcoming journey, the coach of the Green Girls stated, “We will prepare for the third qualifying round because African qualifiers are extremely complex, aiming to achieve the goal of reaching the World Cup.”
Rahal concluded, “We must prepare seriously for the upcoming match in May 2024, and our chances remain intact if we prepare under the best conditions for this encounter.”
It’s worth mentioning that the Green Girls will face the winner of the Niger vs. Morocco match in the final round of qualifiers for the 2024 World Cup in the Dominican Republic.
The first leg will be played away between May 10th and 12th, while the return leg will be in Algeria between May 17th and 19th.
