Algerian winger Bachir Belloumi shines for Hull City after months of injury struggle
Bachir Belloumi returned to the spotlight for Hull City with a commanding display against Wrexham, finally showcasing the talent that had been sidelined by a series of injuries since his arrival at the club.
The 23-year-old Algerian winger’s 2024–25 season was disrupted by a torn cruciate ligament, and his comeback was further complicated when a hamstring relapse during his first start kept him out of action for almost two months.
Gradually reintegrated through substitute appearances in the second half of games, Belloumi was handed a starting role against Wrexham last Wednesday—a decision that proved decisive for Hull City’s performance.
From the opening minutes, Belloumi demonstrated remarkable energy and skill on the right flank, producing a series of incisive runs that culminated in Hull’s opening goal.
His ability to combine pace, technique, and vision immediately elevated the team’s attacking threat.
Fans at the MKM Stadium responded with enthusiasm, rewarding his efforts with a standing ovation as he was substituted later in the match.
Belloumi’s influence was formally recognised when he was named man of the match, a clear testament to his return to form.
“This performance is just the start, Belloumi said after the game. After the setbacks I’ve had, I just want to maintain consistency and help the team as much as I can.”
Belloumi’s ambition extends beyond club football.
He was first called up to the Algerian national team by former coach Djamel Belmadi in October 2023, though he did not feature against Cape Verde and Egypt.
Now, having regained full fitness and confidence, he aims to impress both domestically and internationally, hoping to secure a regular spot in the national squad once again.
The winger joined Hull City in the summer of 2024 on a four-year contract and had been expected to play an integral role under coach Vladimir Petković before his cruciate ligament injury forced him to withdraw.
It’s great to have him back! 🇩🇿

The period of recovery has been challenging, but Belloumi’s recent display suggests he is ready to reclaim his place as a key figure in the Championship side.
With Hull City seeking to build momentum in the second half of the season, Belloumi’s return provides a timely boost.
His combination of technical skill, game intelligence, and determination could prove pivotal as the club targets a successful campaign, while the Algerian winger himself looks to establish consistency and revive his international career.
