Algerian winger Aymen Boutoutaou departs Valenciennes to join Sochaux in new career chapter

Algerian winger Aymen Boutoutaou departs Valenciennes to join Sochaux in new career chapter

Aymen Boutoutaou has officially left Valenciennes FC after six seasons to sign a two-year deal with FC Sochaux, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his professional football career.

The 24-year-old Algerian winger, who spent his entire senior career with the northern French side, moves on following the club’s relegation from Ligue 2 to the Championnat National (third tier) during the 2023/24 campaign.

His transfer to Sochaux will see him continue competing at the same level, though with a fresh environment and renewed ambition.

Boutoutaou’s time at Valenciennes was marked by consistency and loyalty. A product of the club’s youth academy, he rose through the ranks to become a regular feature in the first team.

Known for his technical flair and versatility on the right flank, he featured in over 120 matches for VAFC, including 92 appearances in Ligue 2.

While he was once considered a key starter for the team, last season saw a shift in his role. Amid a challenging campaign that ended in relegation, Boutoutaou found himself used more frequently as a substitute rather than an automatic starter. Despite limited minutes, his ability to impact games remained evident.

Now a free agent, Boutoutaou joins Sochaux with the aim of revitalising his career and contributing meaningfully to the club’s ambitions.

The move represents not only a change of scenery but also a strategic step for the former Algeria U23 international, who still harbours aspirations of reaching greater heights in French football.

At Sochaux, he will be part of a side looking to rebuild after a turbulent period in its own history.

Once a prominent name in French football, the club has also faced financial and sporting difficulties in recent years but remains a historic institution with clear ambitions to climb back up the professional ladder.

Boutoutaou’s decision to sign with Sochaux on a free transfer reflects mutual confidence in the project ahead.

His experience at the professional level, combined with his tactical flexibility and attacking instinct, is expected to provide a valuable boost to the squad as they prepare for the new season in the Championnat National.

Though his time with Valenciennes has come to a close, Boutoutaou leaves with a sense of gratitude and growth.

His development over six seasons, from a youth prospect to a regular first-team contributor, reflects a journey of persistence and evolution.

As pre-season preparations begin, the winger will look to establish himself quickly at his new club and play a key role in Sochaux’s bid to challenge for promotion.

With a two-year contract secured, both player and club are hoping that this new partnership will bring success on the pitch and fresh opportunities for advancement.

Boutoutaou’s move signals the start of a promising new phase, as he takes on a new challenge with the same determination that defined his time at Valenciennes.
