Algerian summer transfer window: Belaili uncertainty, big deals and CR Belouizdad rebuild reshape 2026-27 season

Youcef Belaili’s unresolved future, major domestic transfers and a sweeping rebuild at CR Belouizdad are setting the tone for a turbulent Algerian summer transfer window, with clubs already shaping the 2026-27 campaign more than a month before the league resumes.

Belaili, released by Esperance de Tunis, is at the centre of the market without having signed anywhere. The Algeria international is edging towards another return to MC Alger, where a two-year contract is reported to be on the table. Talks involving the player, his entourage, club president Hadj Redjem and new manager Djamel Benlamri have moved forward significantly in recent weeks.

However, any agreement remains dependent on the outcome of Belaili’s disciplinary case and the appeal lodged with the Court of Arbitration for Sport. That uncertainty is tempering the optimism around the negotiations. At 33, the gifted but controversial forward could rejoin the reigning triple champions of Algeria, where he previously rediscovered form, leadership and strong backing from supporters. USM Alger bring back Benguit amid internal turmoil

USM Alger, battling serious instability at boardroom level, have completed one of the window’s headline returns by re-signing Abderaouf Benguit on a deal running to 2030. The midfielder, who played for the club between 2016 and 2019, leaves CR Belouizdad despite strong interest from Abha Club in Saudi Arabia.

Once an automatic choice at CR Belouizdad, Benguit’s influence and standing had faded, and his highly demonstrative behaviour during the Chabab’s Algerian Cup final defeat by USMA intensified tensions. JS Kabylie have suffered one of the window’s most painful departures, with Zineddine Belaid joining Al Taawoun in Saudi Arabia after a release clause worth around €1.2m was activated. Financially, the deal is attractive for the Canaris, but on the pitch it is a major blow.

CR Belouizdad build from the back with Bedrane and Bouchar

Defender Abdelkader Bedrane could become one of the most reliable signings of the window, provided he finalises his contractual situation with Damac. Initially close to a move to JS Kabylie, the Algeria international centre-back is now in advanced talks with CR Belouizdad over a proposed two-year deal.

With national team experience and spells at Esperance de Tunis and in the Saudi Pro League, Bedrane would be ready to contribute immediately. CRB have already brought back Sofiane Bouchar and have several central defensive options, but the club’s strategy is clear: rebuild a lost solidity and assemble a squad capable of competing on multiple fronts. Bedrane is not a developmental gamble; he is being targeted to organise the back line, win duels and handle high-pressure matches. The absence of a transfer fee would make the deal even more appealing.

Bouchar’s own return from Al Qadsia SC in Kuwait, confirmed on a two-year contract, is also rooted in sporting logic as well as sentiment. A key figure in CRB’s recent domestic dominance, he knows the club, dressing room and expectations intimately and remains a dependable, committed defender. His presence links the successful cycle of recent seasons with the new project under coach Nabil Maaloul, highlighting that club identity can still carry weight in a market dominated by fees, clauses and intermediaries.

Tabti’s last big challenge at ES Setif

After winning two league titles with MC Alger, 33-year-old playmaker Larbi Tabti is embarking on a very different challenge at ES Setif. Beyond goals and assists, his experience, technical quality and deep knowledge of the league are expected to guide a younger squad.

Having already felt the pressure at USM Alger, CR Belouizdad and MCA, Tabti now joins a side less equipped with established stars and less obviously involved in the title race. His role will be to organise play, lead in difficult moments and act as a reference point. This likely final chapter at the top level may be less glamorous, but it will test his ability to lead and remain influential away from the brightest spotlight.

MC Alger make rare big-money domestic move

MC Alger have completed one of the most expensive domestic deals in Algerian football history, paying around €1m in total to sign Ben Ahmed Kohili and Islam Abdelkader from Paradou AC – a package locally reported at close to 17 billion centimes. Both players have agreed four-year contracts, underlining that MCA see them as central pieces rather than depth options.

Kohili brings power, mobility and room to progress, while Abdelkader adds dribbling, pace and creativity from wide areas.
