Algerian footballers Riyad Mahrez, Amir Sayoud, and Sofiane Bendebka have been recognised for their outstanding performances by earning spots in the Saudi Pro League’s Team of the Week following the 29th round of matches.
Riyad Mahrez delivered a standout display for Al Ahli in their dramatic 3-2 win over Al Wehda.
The Algerian winger’s impact was immediate, with his corner setting up Ibanez for the opening goal.
Mahrez continued to torment the opposition, providing an assist for Galeno to double the advantage.
He capped a memorable performance with a stunning acrobatic volley to net Al Ahli’s third goal, sealing a vital victory that keeps the club firmly in the hunt alongside Al Nassr for a top-three finish.
Speaking after the match, Mahrez said, “We worked hard to get this result, but we know nothing is finished yet. We have to stay focused and complete the job.”
Meanwhile, Amir Sayoud impressed despite Al Raed’s narrow 4-3 defeat to Al Taawoun. Returning to action after missing several games in March, Sayoud wasted no time making his mark, converting a penalty to open the scoring.
His creativity was on full display as he orchestrated attacks, striking the post with a dazzling solo run and later supplying two assists, one via an exquisite outside-of-the-foot cross.
Despite the loss, Sayoud remained a central figure in Al Raed’s attacking play, underlining his importance as the club battles to avoid relegation.
“We have a lot of pride, and we will fight until the end. Nothing is impossible in football,” Sayoud commented.
Sofiane Bendebka also continued his impressive run with Al Fateh, showcasing his knack for scoring crucial goals.
The midfielder, more often known for his defensive contributions, found the net for the ninth time this season, heading home from a corner to secure a 2-2 draw against Al Riyadh.
His goal not only salvaged a valuable point in Al Fateh’s campaign but also elevated him to the status of the club’s top scorer.
Bendebka’s instinctive positioning and relentless forward movement have made him a consistent performer throughout the season.
Thanks to their influential displays, Mahrez, Sayoud, and Bendebka have firmly earned their places among the week’s best players, once again highlighting the depth of Algerian talent flourishing on the international stage.
