Algerian Said Benrahma on target in NEOM’s draw with AS Roma

Algerian international Said Benrahma scored for NEOM in their 2-2 friendly draw with AS Roma, one of the Saudi club’s final preparations ahead of the new league campaign.

The winger struck in the 26th minute, just moments after Roma midfielder Bryan Cristante had given the Italians the lead. Benrahma reacted quickly to a clever assist from new signing Saïmon Bouabré, slotting home to level the match.

Benrahma, who helped his side secure promotion to the Saudi Pro League last season, was a constant attacking outlet throughout the encounter.

He registered four attempts on goal, although only one found the back of the net. Despite wayward finishing on three occasions, his influence was evident in NEOM’s attacking play.

The Algerian has been central to NEOM’s preparations for their first top-flight season, which comes alongside a busy summer of reinforcements.

Among the arrivals are Alexandre Lacazette, who rejoined Lyon earlier this summer but spent time working alongside Benrahma in France, as well as young talents Nathan Zézé from Nantes and Bouabré from Monaco.

The friendly against Roma provided a valuable test, with both sides playing at high intensity despite the pre-season setting. After Benrahma’s equaliser, chances continued to flow at both ends, and the game eventually concluded with honours even at 2-2.

For Benrahma, the performance was a timely reminder of his quality after an inconsistent spell last season. His ability to combine flair with decisive moments could prove crucial as NEOM prepares to navigate the challenges of the Saudi Pro League.

The Algerian will now turn his focus to the opening round of the championship in two weeks’ time, when NEOM face a stern test against Riyad Mahrez’s Al Ahli.

That fixture will mark the club’s debut in the top division, with Benrahma expected to play a leading role in their quest to establish themselves among the country’s elite.

With his sharpness returning and confidence growing, Benrahma’s goal against Roma signals his readiness for the battles ahead. NEOM supporters will hope his influence continues to rise as the season begins.
