Algerian player's candid remark on CAN 2023: Morocco to shine

In a candid interview with “Sofoot” magazine, Mohamed Amoura, the striker for the Algerian national football team, expressed his views on their chances in the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN).

Amoura dismissed the notion that Algeria, known as “Les Verts,” is a contender for the continental title, referring to it as a “lie.”

The Algerian forward emphasized that his team is not among the favorites for the championship, stating, “We have a renewed squad with new players integrating well into the group.

It is certain that we will be awaited by other teams due to our position.

We’ve learned the lesson from the last CAN, both physically and mentally.”

Commenting further, Amoura suggested, “I believe the list of contenders will likely be limited to Morocco, Egypt, Senegal, and Ivory Coast, forming the probable final four for CAN 2023.”

The Moroccan national team is gearing up for the continental football spectacle, engaging in their final preparations with a friendly match against Sierra Leone on Thursday.

The Atlas Lions will commence their CAN campaign in Group 6, facing Tanzania on January 17 in their opening match.

Subsequently, they will confront the Democratic Republic of Congo on January 21 and conclude the group stage against Zambia on January 24.

Amidst heightened anticipation, Morocco aims to make a significant impact on the tournament, drawing attention to their aspirations to secure the coveted title.

As the countdown to the CAN kick-off continues, football enthusiasts eagerly await the unfolding drama and the prowess of the participating teams.
