Houssem Aouar is targeting a second trophy with Al-Ittihad as the club prepares for the King’s Cup final against Al-Qadsiah on Friday, capping off a standout debut season for the Algerian midfielder in the Saudi Pro League.
The 26-year-old wrapped up his first league campaign with Al-Ittihad on Monday night against Damac, but his season is far from over.
Speaking to Saudi broadcaster SSC after the final league matchday, Aouar underlined the team’s ambition to end the year with silverware.
“It was a great season with Al-Ittihad. We are proud of what we have achieved,” he said. “Winning the league is never easy. Every season is a new challenge. Tonight, we’re enjoying it, but starting tomorrow, we’ll focus on the Cup final.”
After a mixed start that saw early criticism, Aouar responded in emphatic fashion, finishing the season with 12 goals and four assists.
His performances were central to Al-Ittihad’s domestic dominance, helping the club secure the league title and a place in Friday’s final.
“We still have goals to achieve. Winning the King’s Cup is obviously one of them,” Aouar added, emphasizing that motivation remains high within the squad despite already clinching the league.
A key part of Aouar’s smooth integration into Saudi football has been his chemistry with Al-Ittihad captain Karim Benzema.
The two French-born players, both now representing Algeria, have forged a productive partnership on the field.
“My role was to help the team, and working with Benzema was easy. He’s an exceptional player. I’m here to support him on the pitch,” Aouar said of the former Real Madrid star.
A King’s Cup victory would mark a historic domestic double for Al-Ittihad, adding to an already memorable campaign.
The Jeddah-based club, which boasts a rich history in Saudi football, sees this final as an opportunity to consolidate its legacy with the current squad.
As Aouar looks ahead to his second season in Saudi Arabia, the midfielder will aim to build on a strong foundation that has silenced critics and positioned him as one of the league’s standout performers.
For now, though, all eyes are on Friday’s final—and the chance to lift another trophy.
