Ibrahim Maza is edging closer to a move to Bayer Leverkusen, with the reigning Bundesliga champions reportedly in advanced talks to secure the signature of the highly-rated Hertha Berlin midfielder.
According to German outlet Kicker, Leverkusen are keen to wrap up a deal for the 19-year-old, who has enjoyed a standout season in Germany’s second tier.
Maza has contributed seven goals and five assists across 32 league appearances, attracting interest from several top European clubs.
Despite reported admiration from the likes of Manchester City, Newcastle United, and Atlético Madrid, it appears the Algerian international could remain in Germany, where Leverkusen see him as a natural heir to Florian Wirtz.
Wirtz, a central figure in Leverkusen’s title-winning campaign, is widely expected to depart in the upcoming transfer window, paving the way for fresh talent in midfield.
Negotiations are understood to be ongoing, with Leverkusen reportedly prepared to offer between €11 million and €15 million for Maza.
The Berlin-born playmaker, who represented Germany at youth level before switching allegiance to Algeria, was recently called up to the senior national team — a move that has further elevated his stock on the transfer market.
However, Leverkusen are not alone in their pursuit.
VfB Stuttgart have retained long-standing interest in Maza and are still believed to be monitoring the situation closely.
Stuttgart, who have a strong relationship with the player’s camp, were previously linked with a move last summer and are reportedly considering a renewed offer in an attempt to rival their Bundesliga counterparts.
“Kicker” reports that although Leverkusen have taken a clear lead in the negotiations, Stuttgart are yet to submit a final proposal and could re-enter the race with a competitive bid.
The club remains hopeful of convincing Maza to consider their project as a viable alternative.
With his blend of technical ability, creativity, and vision, Maza is regarded as one of the most exciting young midfielders in European football.
His potential move is expected to be one of the most closely watched developments of the summer window, especially given his international profile and growing influence at club level.
As the tug-of-war between Bundesliga clubs intensifies, all eyes now turn to Maza’s final decision, which could shape the next chapter of his rapidly rising career.
