Algerian international Monsef Bakrar is reportedly in contact with Egyptian football powerhouse Al Ahly, following his participation in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Bakrar, who featured once in the tournament during Algeria’s final group-stage match against Equatorial Guinea, watched from the bench as the Fennecs were eliminated in the quarter-finals by Nigeria, losing 2-0.
Despite limited game time, the 25-year-old forward has attracted interest from one of Africa’s most decorated clubs.
According to football journalist Lorenzo Lepore, Al Ahly has formally reached out to Bakrar’s representatives to explore a potential transfer.
The Egyptian club, a record-holder in the CAF Champions League, is keen to bolster its attacking options, and Bakrar’s versatility has reportedly impressed scouts.
Currently contracted with Dinamo Zagreb until June 2028, Bakrar is valued at €2 million by Transfermarkt.
He joined the Croatian side last summer from New York City FC for approximately €1 million and has since made 20 appearances, starting 10 matches, scoring 9 goals, and providing 3 assists.
A forward capable of playing both centrally and on the right wing, Bakrar began his professional career with ES Sétif before moving to NK Istra in Croatia.
A move to Al Ahly would mark the fifth club of his career and could see him return to the CAF Champions League, providing exposure on the continental stage.
As negotiations continue, Bakrar’s future remains uncertain, but his potential arrival at Al Ahly would be seen as a significant reinforcement for the Egyptian club ahead of the remainder of the season.
It is understood that Al Ahly have made contact with Bakrar’s representative.
