Racing Club de Strasbourg is reportedly targeting Algerian international Farès Chaibi as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of next season.
The French club is keen to bring the 22-year-old back to Ligue 1, where he initially made his name, with Strasbourg understood to be prioritising a move for the versatile forward as they aim for European qualification.
According to sources, including Mohamed Toubache-Ter, Strasbourg is also closely monitoring another potential recruit, Matthis Abline from FC Nantes.
Chaibi’s rise in French football was meteoric during the 2022/2023 season, playing a pivotal role in Toulouse FC’s successful campaign.
With 8 goals and 7 assists, Chaibi was central to Toulouse’s historic triumph in the Coupe de France and their solid league performance, making him one of the most promising young talents in Ligue 1.
His impressive performances quickly captured the attention of European scouts, leading to a transfer to German Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2023, reportedly for €10 million.
However, Chaibi’s time in Germany has not been as smooth as expected. Despite Frankfurt’s strong position in the Bundesliga, sitting third and securing a potential Champions League spot, the Algerian winger has struggled to find consistent form.
Having made 37 appearances this season, Chaibi has only registered two goals and two assists, a significant drop from his more prolific days in France.
His limited playing time has further hindered his chances of making an impact, with just three league starts in 2025. As a result, his market value has been revised down to around €9 million, down from an earlier estimation of €18 million, according to Transfermarkt.
Chaibi remains under contract with Eintracht Frankfurt until 2028, but the prospect of a return to Ligue 1 may present an opportunity for him to revive his career.
Strasbourg’s interest comes at a time when Chaibi is eager to regain his place in the Algerian national team, having recently been recalled.
A move back to France could provide the fresh start he needs, offering him a chance to rediscover the form that made him one of the most exciting young players in Ligue 1.
Strasbourg, currently fighting for a spot in European competitions, sees the potential in signing Chaibi, who could be a valuable asset in their push for European football next season.
The club’s ambitions to strengthen their squad with players capable of making an immediate impact is clear, and Chaibi’s return to a league where he has already excelled would be a strategic move for both the player and the club.
The coming weeks are likely to see continued speculation regarding Chaibi’s future, with Strasbourg aiming to secure the signature of a player who has shown flashes of brilliance in the past.
If a deal materialises, it could be a crucial move for both the player, seeking to reignite his career, and the club, looking to add depth and quality to their squad for the challenges ahead.
