Algerian international striker Billel Omrani, capped in 2022, is set for an unexpected move, departing Romania, where he has plied his trade since leaving Olympique de Marseille in the summer of 2016, to embark on a fresh challenge in Polish Division Two.
Omrani experienced limited playing time in the current season with his former club Petrolul Ploiești. The 30-year-old striker made only five appearances in the league.
Notably, his most prolific years were with CFR Cluj (2016-2022), amassing an impressive record of 47 goals in 209 matches across all competitions and clinching five Romanian Champion titles.
Having joined FCSB (formerly Steaua Bucharest) in the summer of 2022, Omrani struggled to make a significant impact, tallying 22 appearances and two goals.
Following these recent setbacks in Romanian football, the towering striker, standing at 1.87 meters, has opted for a fresh start in Poland, donning the colors of Wisla Krakow in the second division.
Aiming High!
Wisla Krakow, a thirteen-time Polish champion, four-time National Cup winner, and quarter-finalist in the 1979 Champions League, ranks as the third most successful club in the country.
Despite currently competing in the second division for the second consecutive season, Wisla Krakow holds a storied football history.
Omrani, signing with the club until the conclusion of the 2023-2024 financial year, is entrusted with the responsibility of aiding Wisla Krakow in its ascent back to the pinnacle of Polish football.
Positioned at fifth place among 18 teams in the second division, the prospect of a return to the top tier remains achievable for the Krakow-based team, and Omrani’s arrival is seen as a catalyst for this ambitious climb.
