Algerian football mourns the passing of former legend, Saleh Larbas

Former Algerian national team and JS Kabylie footballer Saleh Larbas has passed away at the age of 71, it was announced on Monday.

Larbas, a prominent figure in Algerian football during the 1980s, left an indelible mark on the sport both domestically and internationally.

His death has prompted an outpouring of condolences from across the footballing community.

JS Kabylie’s management, led by President Ashour Shelloul, expressed their heartfelt condolences to Larbas’ family, while also acknowledging his immense contribution to the club’s illustrious history.

The late Larbas represented the Algerian national team in 46 international matches, notably participating in the 1982 FIFA World Cup and the 1980 Moscow Olympics.

His skill and dedication on the field made him a beloved figure among fans and a respected colleague among players.

During his tenure with JS Kabylie from 1971 to 1987, Larbas was instrumental in the club’s success, helping them clinch numerous league titles and prestigious trophies.

His illustrious career with the Canaries saw him lift the Algerian league championship on eight occasions, during the seasons of 1973, 1974, 1977, 1980, 1982, 1983, 1985, and 1986.

Additionally, he secured victory in the Algerian Cup in 1977 and 1986, as well as the African Cup of Champions Clubs in 1981 and the Algerian Super Cup in 1982.
