MO Béjaïa Clinch First Algerian Cup Title, Eyes Now Set on Historic Double
MO Béjaïa have etched their name in Algerian football history after winning their first-ever Algerian Cup title, defeating RC Arbaâ 1-0 in Saturday’s final — the 51st edition of the competition. The triumph comes six decades after the club’s founding and marks a watershed moment for the team and its loyal supporters.
The victory not only rewards a remarkable campaign but has also ignited dreams of an even greater achievement: a potential league and cup double. Currently sitting second in Ligue 1, just two points behind the leader, MOB remain firmly in the title race with a few matches remaining.
Speaking after the final, midfielder Zahir Zerdab, a key figure in MOB’s success, couldn’t hide his delight. “I’m very happy for this first title in the colors of MOB,” he told El Watan. “I’m even more thrilled for our fans, who stood by us all the way, not just during the final, but throughout the whole journey.”
Zerdab credited the team’s triumph to the hard work and sacrifices made since the start of the season: “We fully deserve this trophy. It’s an extraordinary feeling. Now we will savour this success, but quickly return to work because the championship isn’t over. We’re just two points behind — nothing is decided yet.”
MOB’s cup victory marks a significant milestone for a club long overshadowed in domestic football, and with momentum on their side, the prospect of lifting a historic double is no longer a distant dream.
