African Stars Shine Across Europe as Season Reaches Climax

With just three matches remaining in Europe’s major leagues, African players continue to make their mark as clubs chase glory or battle for survival. From Germany to Italy, the weekend saw key contributions from several standout names across the continent.

Germany – Bundesliga, Matchday 31
Borussia Mönchengladbach maintained their push for a Champions League place with a 2-1 victory away at Hertha Berlin. Guinean international Ibrahima Traoré opened his scoring account for the season, playing a pivotal role in the visitors’ win.

In a crucial clash at the bottom, Hannover secured a vital 2-2 draw at high-flying Wolfsburg. Senegalese midfielder Salif Sané found the net, boosting his side’s hopes of avoiding relegation.

Spain – La Liga, Matchday 35
Granada kept their survival hopes alive with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Getafe. Moroccan striker Youssef El Arabi was the hero, netting both goals to take his season tally to six. Still in the drop zone, Granada must now win their remaining matches to have any chance of staying up.

England – Premier League, Matchday 35
Southampton’s European aspirations took a hit after a disappointing 2-1 home defeat to Sunderland. Despite the result, Senegal’s Sadio Mané was once again on the scoresheet, continuing his impressive campaign with the Saints.

France – Ligue 1, Matchday 35
Togolese international Floyd Ayité delivered a crucial goal for SC Bastia, scoring the lone strike in a 1-0 victory over Saint-Étienne. The result could prove decisive in the Corsican club’s battle to remain in the top flight.

Elsewhere, Lille stormed to a 4-1 win in the northern derby against RC Lens. Morocco’s rising star Sofiane Boufal continued to enhance his growing reputation, finding the back of the net in an emphatic performance.

Italy – Serie A, Matchday 35
After finally opening his account midweek, Seydou Doumbia added another goal for AS Roma in their 2-0 win over Genoa. The Ivorian forward struck early to put the Giallorossi on course for an important three points as they vie for second place and automatic Champions League qualification.

Whether competing for titles or battling relegation, African talent continues to be a driving force across Europe’s top leagues. With just weeks left in the season, all eyes will be on these stars as they look to end their campaigns on a high.
