Algerian FA sets major prize incentives for Vladimir Petković ahead of AFCON 2025
Algeria’s football authorities have outlined a lucrative reward structure for national team coach Vladimir Petković should he guide the Fennecs to Africa Cup of Nations glory in Morocco next year.
The financial details, recently circulated in local media, highlight the federation’s ambition to see the national side reclaim continental success after a turbulent spell in recent tournaments.
According to reports from La Gazette du Fennec, Petković will receive a €200,000 bonus if Algeria lift the trophy at the 2025 AFCON, which runs from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026.
The incentive reflects the magnitude of the challenge ahead as Algeria seek to rediscover the form that crowned them champions in 2019, their most recent triumph under former coach Djamel Belmadi.
Petković, who took charge earlier this year, saw his contract automatically extended after securing qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
That achievement has already earned him a €50,000 bonus — a reward separate from his monthly salary of €135,000, which is among the highest awarded to a national team manager on the continent.
In addition, the successful World Cup qualification will bring the coach an extra €500,000 in bonuses, underscoring the financial value placed on Algeria’s presence at football’s biggest stage.
Notably, the same source indicates that Petković has not been given a specific performance mandate for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Early speculation had suggested a minimum target of reaching the quarter-finals, but federation officials have reportedly opted against applying such pressure.
Following consecutive group-stage exits at major tournaments, the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) appears determined to cultivate a more stable and supportive environment for the squad and coaching staff.
This approach reflects a broader strategic shift designed to foster confidence rather than fear of failure.
After frustrations at AFCON 2021 and AFCON 2023, both ending in shock early eliminations, the decision-makers at the FAF — led by president Walid Sadi — are keen to avoid a repeat of the atmosphere that accompanied those disappointing campaigns.

Petković has already begun to shape the team with renewed tactical ideas and a focus on restoring competitive resilience.
The upcoming competition in Morocco will serve as a high-pressure test of progress under his stewardship, with Algerian supporters eager to see a return to the standards that once made the nation a dominant force in African football.
With major financial incentives, strong leadership backing, and a squad rich in individual talent, the stakes for Algeria at AFCON 2025 could not be clearer.
Success would add another chapter to the country’s proud footballing history — and provide a generous payday for the man leading the charge.
