Algerian duo Brahim Dib and Ismaïl Belkacemi named in CAF Confederation Cup Team of the Season

Algerian duo Brahim Dib and Ismaïl Belkacemi have earned places in the CAF Confederation Cup Team of the Season following standout performances in the 2023–2024 campaign.

Dib, captain of CS Constantine, and Belkacemi, formerly of USM Alger before transferring to Al Ahli of Libya during the winter window, were both recognised for their influence in one of Africa’s premier club tournaments.

Dib was instrumental in leading Constantine to the semi-finals—a historic run for the club.

His leadership and consistency in midfield played a significant role in guiding the team past the quarter-finals, where they triumphed over domestic rivals USM Alger in a tense penalty shootout.

Belkacemi, who featured prominently during the group stages for USMA, left his mark before his January departure.

His absence was notably felt as the Algerian giants struggled to maintain their momentum, eventually bowing out in the quarter-finals and falling short in their domestic objectives.

“Both players distinguished themselves well during the recent edition of the CAF Cup,” the report highlighted, acknowledging the lasting influence of their contributions.

CS Constantine’s campaign came to an end in the semi-finals, where the club’s lack of experience on the continental stage proved costly.

However, Dib’s performances throughout the tournament earned widespread praise and culminated in his inclusion among the competition’s elite.

As for Belkacemi, his departure from USM Alger appeared to coincide with a dip in form.

The reigning CAF Confederation Cup champions from 2023 have since seen their season unravel, falling short of two of their three main targets.

Their only remaining hope for silverware lies in the Algerian Cup final, where they face CR Belouizdad in what could be a last chance to salvage a disappointing campaign.

In the league, USMA’s hopes of securing a podium finish have already been compromised, casting further doubt on a season that began with high expectations.

Despite the early exits of their clubs, Dib and Belkacemi’s individual recognition serves as a testament to their quality and influence, and reinforces Algeria’s enduring presence on the African football scene.
